Number Base Glossary
Welcome to the Base Number glossary — a guide to the octal terms, symbols, and structures used across the Octarule ecosystem. From Base-8 to other rhythms, here’s what it all means.

Octal & Doctal Terms
- Base 8 (Octal)
- The favored base of this website. A number system using digits 0–7. Place values increase by powers of 8 which is also a power of 2. 8 is the new ten(10). "I got eigh-two(12) fingers": shows 8 fingers then two thumbs.
- Doctal (Hexadecimal)
- An extended base system inspired by octal, introducing new digits beyond 8 to support advanced notation and symbols. Meaning double octal. In theory, base-8 helped name the new numbers and for which symbols to use. For ↊, it was already in use to describe Dek. Useful for counting larger numbers among other things.
- Pecta (⧖)
- The number name after squeven. Just as eight is 8 and dek is ↊. Pecta represents the base Doctal. P is the 20th number in octal count and ASCII(120). e is swapt for o just as it is in eight. An egg timer symbol, pecking order.
- ↊
- A symbol used to represent decimal Dek(10) in Doctal, Hexadecimal, and Quartertrio number systems — separates base-8 from base-10 clarity. Preferably over saying base-10, base-↊ seems more accurate and neutral. Also worth mentioning, since there is no subscript character for ↊ or z yet, j is used for now. J is the 12th₈ letter in the alphabet.
- 10 and Ten
- Ten refers to the base value — the count of distinct digits used before overflow — regardless of numeral system. Example: In base-8, ten = 8, In base-◇, ten = ◇. Ten only describes the amount according to which base it is in. Every useful base count should have one unique character to represent it.
- Octen and Docten
- Octen is the base-8 equivalent of octal 10 (written as 10₈). Next, Docten writen as 10(⧖) see the Doctal chart. Without the base marker, the number is just Ten assuming the base is written in context or assumed. Ten may be used instead of octen and docten. Ten is not exclusive to decimal.
- Newun
- Meaning “new one,” marking the beginning of new character numbers after base-8. Could Newun describe base-9? Maybe, though not by intent. Yes there is debate on its meaning, however, here it is given extra meaning to Newun for octal clarity in the Doctal chart above.
- Radix Point
- The symbol that separates the integer (whole number) part from the fractional part of a number in any positional numeral system, regardless of base. Can use Octapoint for shortly saying Radix Point in base 8.
- Kerian Calendar
- A calendar system using 8-day weeks and base-8 month lengths. Designed for clarity, rhythm, and adaptability.
- Posiday
- The 8th weekday in the Kerian Calendar — often used for positive thinking, weekly planning, rest and reset.
- Shadoween
- The official extended holiday on the Kerian calendar. Also known as Kerian's leap day. It extends holloween by one day every leap year. A day of spooky eights.
- Calc-8
- An octal-focused calculator that handles operations using base-8 logic and notation. Can also perform decimal calculations and convert between the two bases.
- Octaclock
- A clock that represents time in base-8 increments, useful for visualizing Kerrian or binary time flow. One second is not your usual second. And one minute is not your usual one minute. These durations changed so that one hour could remain one hour while having 100 seconds and 100 minutes(Base-8). It works! Every tick beats at exactly 0.87890625 of a traditional second.
- Octarule
- Domain of the website. It was inspired by a one foot ruler measuring tool. The first octal tool I made. From one measuring stick, into a clock, and(4 years later) into the start of a base-8 website featuring many octal apps.
- “At some tempo...”
- A guiding phrase acronym for Kerian calendar weekdays: time and rhythm are fluid, not fixed. Change can happen, if and when it does, rhythms will realign, work flow will start beating at a faster more efficient paste. Let it run along side base-↊ or fully convert into the better base-system. Base-8 is a more fractionally divisable base system and is a power of 2. You don't have 10(↊) fingers, you have 8 fingers + 2 thumbs(12 in base-8 describes it best).
